How Does
Invisalign Work?
/
The Invisalign clear aligners use custom-fitted trays that apply constant yet gentle pressure to your teeth, bringing them back into alignment. For your treatment, you will be given several sets of trays. Each straightening tray is replaced with the next in the series every two weeks, furthering your treatment until you achieve your ideal smile.
What Can Invisalign Correct?

Gapped Teeth
Gapped teeth are a common concern for teens and many adults. Invisalign clear aligners can discreetly close that gap by putting your teeth back into alignment and restoring your confident smile.

Crooked Teeth
Also a common concern for teens and adults, crooked teeth can hamper the aesthetics of your smile and the function of your bite. Depending on the severity, crooked teeth can also put stress on your TMJs. Invisalign will gradually guide those crooked teeth back into position to create a beautiful and functional smile.

Crowded Teeth
Crowded teeth occur when your molars, incisors, and canines overlap. Dental crowding causes difficulty when trying to clean your teeth and gums, which makes it more than just a cosmetic dental problem. Invisalign can put your teeth into proper alignment by spacing them out, benefitting both your appearance and your oral health.

Overbite and Underbite
An overbite or underbite can cause your jaw to be in misalignment while resting and while chewing. Over time, this can cause a TMJ disorder and lead to much more serious dental health concerns. Invisalign works to reposition your teeth and allow your upper and lower teeth to meet properly.

View On GoogleOrthodontics Can Prevent Health Issues
Orthodontics like Invisalign and traditional braces not only give you a straighter smile, but also prevent health issues associated with misaligned teeth. For example, overlapping teeth can make flossing and brushing more challenging, increasing your risk of tooth decay.
A misaligned bite can also put excess pressure on your temporomandibular joints (TMJs). Your jaw will naturally try to overcompensate for a misaligned bite, but over time, this causes significant strain that can lead to TMJ disorder. Symptoms include headaches and a locking jaw joint.
You can take a proactive stand against these issues by consulting us about Invisalign and metal braces.

Be Aware of What You Drink
You should avoid drinking acidic, sugary, or dark-colored liquids while wearing your aligners, because this could cause the aligners to become stained. Sugar and acids can also become trapped in your aligners and affect your teeth. You should also avoid hot beverages, which can warp your aligners.
Record your Daily Use
To get the most out of your Invisalign treatment, you have to wear your clear aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. The time you spend eating and drinking can add up, potentially cutting into the amount of time you should be wearing your retainer. Keep track of how much time you spend without your aligner each day to stay on target.
Attend Check-Ups
Dr. Wilderman will schedule check-up appointments during and after your Invisalign treatment. This is also an opportunity to address any issues that develop and make necessary adjustments.
My Aligners Have Been Damaged What Should I Do?
/
If your aligners have been lost or damaged, call our Doylestown, PA, office right away. Depending on where you are in your treatment, Dr. Wilderman will either send you a new set that is the same as the lost or damaged trays, or advise that you wear your next trays. You should not go without wearing any aligners because this can delay and alter the outcome of your treatment.
What to Expect After Invisalign Treatment
/
The results from your clear orthodontics can last a lifetime if you follow your post-treatment instructions. Whether you wear Invisalign or traditional braces, you will have to wear a retainer (usually while sleeping) after completing your treatment to help keep your teeth in their proper positions. You may be able to wear the last aligner tray in the series as a retainer.

Severity of Misalignment
The complexity and severity of your misalignment can have a significant impact on your treatment expense. Patients with minor misalignment require less up-front planning and will achieve their desired results more quickly, both of which reduce cost. Those with more complicated cases of misalignment will require more advanced treatment with specialized aligners and a greater number of appointments at our Philadelphia-area office, which raises the overall cost.
Time
The treatment timeline is the amount of time you will need to use Invisalign to achieve optimal alignment. Most patients will need to wear the aligners for around 12 months, similar to conventional braces. Shorter treatments require fewer sets of custom-created aligners, meaning lower costs overall. You can save money and achieve your results quicker by closely following your dentist's instructions and wearing the aligners for the required amount of time each day.
Insurance
Most insurance plans cover orthodontic treatments including Invisalign, up to a certain amount. To ensure you get the most coverage from your insurance plan, our Philadelphia staff will work closely with you to correctly submit the necessary documentation. We want you to pay as little out-of-pocket as possible so you can enjoy the benefits of Invisalign treatment on any budget. We also offer CareCredit® financing to help make your out-of-pocket expenses manageable.
Can I Finance My Invisalign Treatment?
/
If you need to finance any portion of your Invisalign treatment not covered by insurance, Dr. Wilderman and our staff will work to help you choose a financing plan that is right for you. Our office accepts credit cards and CareCredit financing, which can make any out-of-pocket costs more manageable. Our Philadelphia staff is committed to making the treatment you need a comfortable fit for your budget.
