Laser Gum Contouring Is a Safe  and Simple Way to Enhance Your Smile

Results in One Visit

Dr. Wilderman uses an advanced soft tissue laser to perform gum reshaping. This treatment takes only one appointment to complete and patients generally need just a few days to recover.

Conservative Reshaping

If you have a gummy smile, Dr. Wilderman can provide a striking result by removing very little gum tissue. Revealing more of your teeth can create a beautiful, symmetrical smile.

Reduced Risk of Complications

Compared to traditional gum reshaping methods, laser gum contouring reduces the already small chance of side effects. Using a laser also shortens recovery time and eliminates the need to place sutures.

A More Beautiful Smile Can Have a Dramatic Impact on Your Life

Is Gum Reshaping Right for Me?

An aesthetically pleasing smile is not created through bright, even teeth alone. Your gum line is the framework for your smile, and is equally important for a symmetrical, attractive smile. Gum contouring or gum reshaping is an effective treatment for patients whose teeth appear short or misshapen due to excess gum tissue or for those who have an uneven or jagged gum line.

Dr. Wilderman focuses on your aesthetic goals and overall appearance to create a gum line that best complements your smile.

When you visit Artistic Expressions Dentistry for your initial consultation, Dr. Wilderman will examine your gums and teeth before creating your custom treatment plan. Dr. Wilderman focuses on your aesthetic goals and overall appearance to create a gum line that best complements your smile.

If you wish to transform your smile dramatically, Dr. Wilderman may suggest additional cosmetic dentistry treatments such as teeth whitening or porcelain veneers to address specific issues in a complete smile makeover. However, Dr. Wilderman will first check to ensure you do not require treatment for any underlying oral health issue such as tooth decay before undergoing cosmetic treatment.

Gum Contouring Procedure

Cosmetic gum contouring treatments typically require just one office visit. At our office, this procedure is performed under a local anesthetic, administered by The Wand®, a computer-assisted anesthesia system that can minimize discomfort and provide more precise anesthetic delivery.

After the treatment area is numbed, Dr. Wilderman uses a state-of-the-art diode laser to remove excess gum tissue and reshape the gum line. He uses very conservative techniques to remove the smallest amount of tissue necessary for dramatic effects. Our advanced laser system also minimizes pain and bleeding, as well as reduces the risk of infections because the laser seals your gums and blood vessels as it excises excess gum tissue.

Post-Treatment Care

The advanced gum sculpting treatment offered at our Artistic Expressions Dentistry typically results in excellent results and a quick recovery. Post-treatment swelling is typically minor and should last for only a couple of days. Patients may experience minor discomfort during this period, but any pain or sensitivity can usually be managed with over-the-counter medication. We typically recommend that patients consume soft, cool foods and liquids, avoiding hard or spicy items that can irritate the gums during the recovery period.
