Laser Dentistry

Dental Lasers

At our Bucks County dental practice, our dental lasers can be used to reshape gummy smiles or treat cavities without the need for injections.
In our office, we have two kinds of dental lasers. The first is a diode laser. The diode laser is used for gum reshaping. Gum symmetry is an integral part of smile design. We also have the hard tissue laser. With the hard tissue laser, many times we can do small fillings with little or no anesthesia at all.

Dentistry has changed tremendously over the past decade to the benefit of both the patient and clinician. One technology that has become increasingly utilized is that of the laser. The greatest impact it has made is the ability to be used for both teeth and gums, without the need for anesthesia.

We recently purchased two of the most advanced dental lasers on the market today. First is the Diode Laser, which is strictly for soft tissue procedures, like gum reshaping. Gum reshaping is used primarily in advanced smile design, where we not only try to create beautiful teeth, but also symmetry in the shape of the gum tissue. This laser can be used to eliminate a gummy smile or give immediate pain relief from mouth ulcers.

Prior to the use of the Diode Laser, gum reshaping often resulted in prolonged discomfort and healing times of up to 12 weeks. There was often the lack of predictability as well. With this laser, we have the ability to reshape gums to optimize symmetry and maximize aesthetics. Many times, gum reshaping, combined with teeth whitening, can transform an unpleasing smile into a dazzling one. Additionally, the laser seals nerve endings and blood vessels, so postoperative discomfort and bleeding are almost non-existent.

Our second purchase, the YAG laser, can be used for repairing hard tissue, such as the teeth and bone. Many times, decay can be removed with the use of the YAG laser without the use of the drill or anesthesia, allowing for a more comfortable dental experience.

Although the use of lasers in dental procedures is relatively new, they have made a significant difference in the field of dentistry thus far.

Dental Implant Restorations

Dental Implants

For patients who missing a single tooth or several teeth, Dr. Wilderman offers dental implants as a solution. With dental implants, patients can be free from uncomfortable dentures and removable bridges.
DR. WILDERMAN: A dental implant can be for a person who is missing a single tooth to someone who is tired of putting their teeth in a glass at the end of the night. We can use it to replace one tooth or a whole mouth of teeth. An implant is a titanium cylinder that's placed in the area where the tooth used to be. It's essentially an artificial tooth root that I can attach a tooth or teeth to. We have a great relationship with some of the area's best implant surgeons. They have some of the latest technology to help guide and place the implants. That makes my job much easier. My patients come back and give me tremendous feedback about all the specialists that we refer people to. You really need that confidence when it comes to an implant surgeon to know that we've chosen the best surgeon possible for you. Implants are probably the closest thing we have to having your own natural teeth back. There really isn't anything that I can make that's as good as what you were born with, but dental implants are a close second.

Dental implants provide patients with long lasting, strong and natural looking replacement teeth, allowing restorative dentist Dr. Bruce Wilderman to free his Philadelphia area patients from uncomfortable dentures and removable bridges. Those who undergo a dental implant restoration can finally eat what they want without the fear of an embarrassing denture slip. Dental implants are now the most popular solution to missing teeth at Dr. Wilderman’s practice.

Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth. By anchoring dental implants into the jawbone, where they permanently fuse, an oral surgeon is able to ensure that your replacement teeth have a sturdy foundation. Highly functional replacement teeth are then placed on the studs to give you a beautiful new smile.

As a restorative dentist in suburban Philadelphia, Dr. Wilderman likes to remind his patients that dental implant procedures are much more than simply cosmetic. When a tooth is missing, the surrounding teeth tend to lean toward the area where the missing tooth should be. This can cause chewing problems, jaw pain and headaches associated with bite disorders like TMJ (temporo mandibular joint). Dental implant procedures also alleviate the negative effects of dentures and bridges such as bone loss and gum recession. Because dental implants are firmly planted and fused with the jawbone, they help to strengthen your bite while preserving your gums and facial structure.

Porcelain Crowns

Crowns and Bridges

At Artistic Expression Dentistry, Dr. Bruce Wilderman restores patients' teeth by providing porcelain crowns to a patient who has one or more chipped or cracked teeth. Dr. Wilderman also provides dental bridges to fix a patient who has missing one or more teeth.
DR. WILDERMAN: All the crowns we do in our office are made of all porcelain. All-porcelain crowns have a natural translucency that look like natural teeth. A crown is for somebody that's got a chipped tooth, a broken tooth, maybe just a large filling in a tooth. It can also be used to beautify a tooth. We can use crowns for a number of reasons to help you get a better smile. A bonded all-porcelain crown restores almost completely the natural strength of the tooth. Not only do you get the benefit of having a brand new tooth look beautiful, but you also have the strength and beauty of a natural tooth. A crown generally takes two visits. On the first visit, we're going to shape and rough the tooth, take an impression, and make a temporary crown that you'll wear for about three weeks. You'll come back to the office for the second visit and we'll remove the temporary crown, and then place your permanent crown in about half an hour. A bridge is to help replace a missing tooth. A missing tooth can really detract from someone's appearance. By using an all-porcelain bridge, you can replace that tooth and have it look completely natural. The great thing about a crown or a bridge is that you treat it just like your own teeth. You don't think about chewing with it. You don't have to think about brushing or flossing it. You treat it exactly like you would your own teeth.

Dental Bridges

If you’re missing one or more teeth, dental bridges are an excellent alternative to removable partial dentures or dental implants. By attaching natural looking artificial teeth between two dental crowns on the opposing teeth, Dr. Wilderman is able to give your smile a wonderful, functional and aesthetic improvement. Dental bridges are not prone to the slippage of removable dentures and are less invasive than dental implants.
