Artistic Expressions Dentistry is proud to offer patients the latest in state-of-the-art dental care in the Philadelphia, PA area. This includes the use of dental lasers and advanced methods of whitening and brightening smiles. Yet dental technology can also be used as a diagnostic tool, improving our ability to perform general dentistry services.

We’d like to take an moment to consider just some of the advanced diagnostic technology at our practice.

Why Advanced Dental Technology Matters

Using advanced technology for dental diagnostics allows us to get a more accurate understanding of a patient’s teeth, gums, bone structure, and other tissues that impact dental health.

Don’t get us wrong. Traditional dental diagnostic techniques still have their value, which is why normal dental exams have such a routine format. Yet state-of-the-art dental diagnostics give dentists a deeper insight into the potential problems that a patient may face.

Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays have been a staple of advanced dental diagnostics for more than a decade. Thanks to continued innovations in digital technology, today's digital x-rays are even more accurate than they were years before. Now dentists can really have a close-up detailed view of the various structures of the mouth, as well as an understanding of how all the parts interact in three dimensions.

Advantages Over Traditional X-Rays

Digital x-rays expose patients to far less radiation than traditional radiography techniques. The images tend to be more accurate and sharper as well, giving the dentist better information and visual detail overall.

Intraoral Cameras

Intraoral cameras are small, handheld devices that allow dentists to get a close-up look at a patient's teeth and gums. These cameras are small enough to fit comfortably in a patient’s mouth. They’re even able to access the hard-to-reach back of the mouth.

Oral Cancer Screenings

In addition to digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, our practice also uses state-of-the-art equipment for oral cancer screenings.

When checking for oral cancers, we will use traditional methods that dentists have relied on for years. This includes a full exam, examination of x-rays, looking for lesions or growths that seem abnormal, and talking about the patient’s health concerns.

As part of the screening, we can also use the latest technology to examine the soft tissues of the mouth specifically. This screening technology helps us pinpoint mucosal abnormalities, and only takes a few minutes to perform. Should there be any signs of concern, we can then take a biopsy and send it to a lab for further analysis.

A Continued Commitment to Patient Wellness

Whether it’s cavities or cancer, early detection is key to successful treatment. Our combination of tried-and-true with fresh-and-new is a great way to screen for any problems a patient may face.

As more technology is brought into the practice, we’ll be more than happy to share our thoughts about it here on this blog.
